An Astrological Magic Talisman for Success with Judges and Bureaucrats

from Picatrix

This week Jupiter finally leaves Gemini, where it has been in detriment and goes into Cancer where it is in its exaltation. After sign rulership, exaltation is the second strongest dignity. This means that the next few months will be ideal for all types of Jupiter elections and astrological magic.
The Italian astrologer Guido Bonatti says that, "...and while a planet is in his exaltation it is like a man who is in his own kingdom, dukedom or podesta [judgeship]..." Liber Astronomiae Bk. I, Chap. 40 (Spica ed.) page 47. This is a very traditional association. Al-Biruni, the 9th century Arabic astrologer says that exaltations are, "...like the thrones of kings and other high positions." Book of Instructions in the Elements of the Art of Astrology Section 443 (Wright trans.) page 258.

Jupiter and Io
Jupiter is also associated with government and authority. After all Jupiter is the king of the gods. The first century Greek astrologer Dorotheus of Sidon says, "If it is a matter of the government or a matter of kings or a request before kings, then look concerning this to the power of Jupiter." Carmen Astrologicum Bk. IV, Chap. 31 (Pingree trans.) page 291. A millenium and a half later, William Lilly says that Jupiter rules, "...Judges, Senators, Councellours." Christian Astrology page 63.
Therefore Jupiter and Jupiter in his exaltation seems entirely appropriate for an election for success with judges and officials. We turn to Picatrix for this week's example of Electional Astrology and Astrological Magic. For more information on Picatrix, an encyclopedic work of medieval Arabic astrology and magic see Picatrix at Twilight Grotto. Two more selections from Picatrix, untranslated elsewhere can be found at Astrology, Magical Talismans & Mansions of the Moon in Picatrix and Listing of the Mansions of the Moon in Picatrix.
This week's talisman comes from David Pingree's Latin version of Picatrix published by the Warburg Institute,
Et si ab officialibus et iudicibus volueris diligi, facias ex operibus Iovis formam hominis formosi cum vestimentis amplis supra aquilam equitantis in hora Iovis in ascendente et in sua exaltacione existentis in lapide cristalli. Qui vero hanc ymaginem secum portaverit ab officialibus et iudicibus diligetur.

And if you wish to be esteemed by officials and judges, make according the operations of Jupiter the form of a handsome man with ample robes riding an eagle in crystal stone in the hour of Jupiter when Jupiter is in the ascendant and in his exaltation. It is true that officials and judges will esteem those that carry these images with them.

Following these instructions the time chosen for the making of the Jupiter talisman is July 20, 2001 at 4:01 am EDT in Washington, D.C. 38 N 55, 77 W 03. At this time Jupiter is in his exaltation Cancer and conjunct the Ascendant.
It is the planetary hour and planetary day of Jupiter. Don't get confused because by our conventional day beginning at midnight it's already Friday. The planetary days don't begin until sunrise, so it's still the night portion of the planetary day of Jupiter (Thursday).
Interestingly enough, the positive elements of this election for judges and officials go beyond these factors. The 17th century English astrologer William Ramesey says,

"About obtaining of favour at the hand of any King or great man, whatever sign you place in in the Ascendant, let Jupiter be therein...or place the lord of the tenth in the ascendant..."

Astrologiae Restaurata Bk. III, Section 10, Chapter Two (JustUs ed.) page 197.

We note that in the election chart that Jupiter is the ruler of the 10th house of kings, judges, and "...all sorts of Magistracy and Officers in Authority..."Christian Astrology page 55. Jupiter is also in the ascendant. Finally, we like the fact that the Moon is strong in her sign of Cancer as the Moon is always important in all elections as the mediatrix or messenger of the planetary influences to the material or sub-lunary realm.
This talisman would combine well with Court Case Spiritual Supplies from the Lucky Mojo Curio Company the foremost hoodoo mail order/Internet supply house.
