Why Should I Consult An Astrologer?
Part of the spiritual awakening that has accompanied
the "New Age" and the beginning of a new millennium is an awareness that the
events in our lives are not random, but follow definite patterns and cycles.
More and more people are becoming aware of what Carl Jung termed synchronicity,
connections based not on material causality, but meaningful coincidence. As we pay closer
attention to synchronicities in our lives we become aware that we are part
of a greater pattern, traditionally termed
destiny or fate.
Previous to the 18th century sages and philosophers
used astrology, the science of relating the cycles in the heavens to the cycles on Earth,
to systematically describe and predict fate. While some schools of thought,
particularly the Stoics, entirely rejected free will, by the Renaissance,
Western astrologers took into account both Fate and free will.
The stars were seen as ruling the passions and emotions and not the
divine spirit in Man. Those who could understand and direct
their passions thus need not be under the absolute control of the heavens.
Today people interested in determining and directing
their future destiny can best benefit from astrology if they understand how astrology
works and what information can be derived from it. Basically astrology analogizes
the cycles of the heavenly bodies with events below on Earth. We can divide contemporary
astrology in three main categories: (1) Sun Sign astrology in newspapers, magazines
and now on the Internet (2) modern psychological astrology and
(3) traditional (pre-1700) astrology.
Most people are aware of sun sign astrology
from newspaper and magazine columns. What most people consider their astrological
sign is, in fact, their Sun sign, that is, the sign of the Zodiac where the
Sun was at the time of their birth. In the best of circumstances,
Sun sign astrology is not very accurate. With 12 signs, Sun sign
astrology addresses only 12 personality types. This is not enough
information for an astrologer to make accurate predictions. It is also
clear that most Sun sign columns follow the old gypsy fortune telling
technique of making vague statements that could apply to anyone.
Sun sign astrology columns in newspapers and magazine are thus of little use.
Most astrologers today practice psychological astrology.
They use the much more accurate technique of examining not just what sign your Sun
is in, but all nine of the modern planets, as well as a number of other methods.
Psychological astrologers analogize the planets, their strengths, weaknesses and
interactions, to the forces at work in our minds and emotions. Psychological
astrology is very useful for counseling and self discovery. For the best results,
it is necessary to know the time, date and place of your birth in order to produce
an accurate horoscope.
I am a practitioner of Renaissance astrology,
a much less common type of astrology due to its complexity. It does what
psychological astrology cannot, make accurate and specific predictions about
future events. As William Lilly, the famous 17th century
English astrologer said, all types of events on Earth can be predicted
through the twelve houses of the horoscope.
One of the most useful areas for Renaissance astrology
are questions of love and marriage.
This is one area where passion reigns supreme and
reason must give way. Since the stars rule passions and emotions by asking a
question regarding the future of a relationship and casting a horoscope for
the time of the question, we can see clearly the future of the relationship.
Renaissance astrology even gives us the tools to see if the person desired is
enamoured of the person asking the question or whether they are already involved
with someone else. All sorts of useful information can be gleaned from this
traditional astrological technique, known as horary astrology
which does not require you to know your exact time of birth.
By knowing where we are in the cycles of our
lives we can make informed choices about how we want to live our lives.
An astrologer, armed with sophisticated astrological software and experience
in interpretation, can provide us with the information we need.
