Talisman

OF THE

SUN

FROM

Israel Hibner's

Mysterium Sigillorum

The current astrological chart is an election for a talisman of the Sun from Mysterium Sigillorum, "The Mysteries of Sigils, Herbs and Stones" by Israel Hibner, translated into English and published in 1698. Mysterium Sigillorum is unusual because due to censorship few books on talismans were published in the 17th century and it is therefore a very useful source of information on astrological magic.
You can also purchase a copy of the book by following the Mysterium Sigillorum link.
Sun Table from Mysterium Sigillorum
Hibner says of the talisman of the Sun, "Melt of Antimony three parts, put into it one part of Gold, let them melt together seven or eight minutes, then cast it inot an Iron Vessel and the Gold falls into a Regulus; do this three times, then test it with Saturn. Melt this Gold with a little borax in a clean crucible."

Mysterium Sigillorum at pages 169-70.
Hibner says, "Cast a Sigil, as is here described, of this Gold; upon one side must be stamp'd the Body of Sol, in the middle of it the character of Sol and round the name of S O L; on the other side must be the Number, from 1 to 36 in a square, so as by Addition they may in every way produce 111; in the top must be [the Hebrew character shown in the illustration to right].

Hibner says that, "The Stamp must be made like that of Saturn, and on each side must be stamp'd the Figure and Number of Sol, in a good Solar Influence. This Solar Sigil made and prepared duly and put in a golden colour'd or yellow Silk bag, and hung about the Neck or Breast preserves sound people and cures the Sick of all Solar diseases.

Mysterium Sigillorum at pages 170.
Hibner also says that the sigil of the Sun, "...brings Men to great Dignities, that they grow in Honour and Riches day after day; it makes Men Invicible, Strong, Courageous and Fortunate; it brings great riches; it preserves against Plague and Lunacy..."

The elected time and date is August 3, 2003 at 6:15 am EDT (+4) at Cleveland Park, a Washington, D.C. neighborhood, 38 N 56 77 W 03.
The Sun rises in his sign Leo. It is Sunday and Sun hour. Can't get more Solar than that!
This is also an excellent election for other kinds of Sun talismans. You can see other Solar talismans elections and instructions for their construction at Sun Aries Picatrix Talisman and the Sun Leo Agrippa Talisman. Here is an example election that shows Agrippa's Sun Table & Seal which is interesting to compare to Hibner's table.
Here is further information on Astrological Talismans and Astrological Magic. If you wish to delve even deeper into this fascinating area I offer an Astrological Magic Full Course, a Planetary Magic Mini-Course and a Mansions of the Moon Mini-Course as well as my discussion group Spiritus Mundi.
