Nigel Jackson

Born in Manchester in 1963 Nigel Jackson is an artist, symbolist and esotericist whose work is grounded in the awareness of the transcendent and eternal divine order of the Primordial Tradition. Heeding the wise dictum of William Blake that "It is a pretence of Art that destroys Art: it is a pretence of Religion that destroys Religion" his is a metaphysical outlook that eschews the contemporary aberrations of progressivism, scientism, relativism, evolutionism, occultism and psychologism, rejecting the delusions of the Enlightenment, the superstitions of modernity and the nihilistic abyss of post-modernism alike. Instead he has turned to the figure of the Magister-Artifex and the working ethos of operative guilds and confreries of the High Middle Ages as exemplars and inspirations. His whole approach is that of the spiritual Arts & Crafts as a practical pathway uniting the functions of Contemplation and Action through creative discipline as a means and support for the attainment of initiatory realisation and gnosis within the Traditional world-view. This activity epitomises and restores the spirit of the artisanal mysteries of the traditional 3rd estate in fulfilment of the dharma of the artifex. Within this religio-artistic and esoteric context he is an authoritative exponent and practitioner of the spiritual science of traditional symbology and hermeneutics on the basis of the medieval adage Ars sine Scientia nihil. His interest in the canonical images of the secondary cosmological sciences of the Tradition such as Astrology centres primarily upon the aesthetic and contemplative possibilities offered by the primordial symbolism these contain and transmit. Rumi Tarot
The Rumi Tarot is the latest tarot masterpiece from Nigel Jackson with 78 cards individually hand painted in the complex and traditional egg tempera technique. It comes in a special box set including a 300 page accompanying book that gives the background to Rumi and Sufism as well as the Tarot and gives page after page of specific information on each card. Nigel is a master of esotericism and ideally suited to create a deck that combines the spiritual Sufi wisdom of Rumi with the spiritual system of the Tarot.
This is not, like many contemporary Tarot decks, full of photo-shopped images. Each card was individually painted and the images are incredible! Nigel has really captured the Persian/Moghul miniature style though staying within the overall scheme of the standard Rider-Waite deck.
Each card is paired with a specific quote from Rumi and its spiritual import as well as divinatory significance is fully elucidated in the voluminous accompanying book. I really can't say too much about the stunning visual images of the Rumi Tarot. Clearly a must have for Tarot collectors, but also a true manifestation of the Tarot as spiritual wisdom visually encapsulated.
